Ranking high in Google can bring you some
serious traffic too. When looking at a Google
results page (often referred to as Search
Engine Results Page, or SERP for short), the
number one result alone brings in 31% of
search traffic on average. Meaning, when
people search for a keyword, 31% of those
searches will click the first result. When you’re looking at a competitor’s web page source code, you’ll see the tag near the top of the page, along with a bunch of tags used to describe the page’s content. If the site includes it, the meta name= ”keywords” tag should be a few lines below. Both of these contain your competitor’s keywords. Keyword research is one of the most valuable things you can do to obtain and maintain high search engine rankings and promising SEO results. For most small businesses, a keyword combination contains usually three or more targeted words that describe what you do. Seriously, what is worse than staring at a blank page waiting for it to load? The page speed is a huge ranking factor when it comes to search engines. Google’s latest update had a heavy focus on the user experience and site speed can undoubtedly affect this. This means that search engines look at page speed and provide ranking advantages to faster matches. Common sense, right?
SEO + design = greatnessThere are as many ways to build links as there are types of website. Thanks to Google’s crack-down on creating spam links, many old tactics no longer work. Now much of link-building is good old-fashioned marketing – promotion and PR. When you delete one or more posts or pages from your site, there’s often collateral damage. Your headline is among the first things that users will come across when carrying out a search. This makes them important, and it’s useful to brainstorm as many variations as you can until you land on the best candidate. Use heading tags where it makes sense. Too many heading tags on a page can make it hard for users
to scan the content and determine where one topic ends and another begins.
Use Google Keyword Planner To Find Untapped KeywordsThere are many different ways of creating new content. In addition to text, web content also includes images, videos, graphics, and audio files. Play around with different content styles in a variety of formats -- blog posts, site pages, webinars, videos, etc. Make the most of the diversity of options out there! Users appreciate variety. Even with more and more consumers using their mobile devices to search and browse the web, there are some companies that still focus all their marketing and SEO efforts to desktops and choose to ignore their mobile customers (or just don’t realize how mobile their customers really are). If you produce great content, but no one’s there to see it, does it acquire links? If you can’t meet a visitor’s need on that page, direct them to a page (or even another site) that can. The user will greatly appreciate it and your webpage’s authority will be boosted.
Double check your URLsQuality is always important when producing new content, but it’s the SEO that can boost your efforts of reaching a target audience. Measuring how many visits your site gets, and analyzing the sources sending the most traffic, means you can see which content marketing and SEO strategies are getting you the best results. By properly using HTML tags, on-page linking, and internal backlinking, you can streamline your site to best serve your customers. By creating relevant content that guides users through the marketing funnel, you can improve sales and generate more interest in your brand. We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "The more likely potential visitors are to think your site will provide an answer to their search query, the more traffic a page will gain."
Google is trying to better understand the semantic meanings of words by looking at how they appear in knowledge bases on the webStructured data, sometimes referred to as schema markup, are codes which are added to websites to provide search engines with in-depth information about your products, your business offering, prices of your products, location-based offerings and much more. There’s a danger that duplicate content will cannibalize the keywords you want to target in search. Duplicate content can be a problem on your own site, but also with any guest posts that you submit to other websites for backlinks. Overfed with countless advice making things look simple and obvious, webmasters often rely on their intuition, common sense, or gut feelings when it comes to SEO… and they often fail. You should see improvements in website traffic, a key indicator of progress for your keywords.
